A few days ago at Openmotive we explored using EE’s built-in IP to Nation module to detect a user’s country. That module is designed to output a flag or country code, and allows you to block users from certain countries. While useful, it wasn’t quite powerful enough for our needs (multiple currencies and languages). We also realized that by simply expanding on the current IP to Nation database table, we could build something much more useful.
The result is a nifty little plugin we originally launched as the “OM Country Detector”, but quickly came to our senses and renamed simply the “Country Plugin”. Check out the official blog post at Openmotive.com for more info and downloads.
Hey Mike great work on the plug in (and your site) some very cool stuff going on!
I’ve got a question about the plugin if you don’t mind. It’s about the default parameter, I might be being really stupid but I’ve got everything else working but can’t get the default to work.
This is my code:
{exp:country redirect=”shop/us” countries=”us” default=”uk”}
{exp:country redirect=”shop/ca” countries=”ca” default=”uk”}
{exp:country redirect=”shop/uk” countries=”uk”}
am i missing something?
Thanks
Ian
Hey Ian-
Thanks for the compliments and for using our plugin! Just wanted to let you know I’m not ignoring you, just super busy lately
I’ll reply to your question in more detail via email.
Hi Mike,
Is this plugin still supported / working?
I am getting errors / no love when installed (along with IP2Nation of course).
The plugin is just what i need!
I’m getting this:
“Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_param() on a non-object in /nfs/c01/h13/mnt/11393/domains/smilingbear.com.au/html/systembear/expressionengine/third_party/om_country_detector/pi.om_country_detector.php on line 38″
Any ideas?
Hey Dave- Are you using it with EE1 or 2? I’m pretty sure it only works with EE1.
Aha! that would explain it – yes I’m using EE2. Shame there is not a version for EE2… hint hint
