Thanks to my good friend “JT” Talmadge, getting from our hometown in PA to the trail in Jellico, TN was in air conditioned luxury. Borrowing a flat bed snowmobile trailer from our awesome local Yamaha dealership (B & B Yamaha), we mounted up the bikes and headed out early this morning. A few Cracker Barrel and Subway’s later, we arrived with bikes intact at the Days Inn in Jellico – the offical start of the Trans-America trail.
After chowing down some bangin’ burritos at a surprisingly nice little Mexican joint, we were pleased to learn from the waitress that you can buy beer at most gas stations in TN. Unfortunately what they didn’t tell us was that you cannot sell beer within a certain proximity of a church – and of course, the hotel was right across the street from one. Fortunately, JT saved the day (again) and made a trip for some Yuengling pounders. As good as this beer tastes now, I know it will taste much better in the coming weeks…
Rick, my father, who will now be referred to as “Dad”, is cutting up tomorrow’s roll charts while surviving an onslaught of 2nd hand burrito gas (it was all JT, I swear!). It’s looking like clear skies and a sunny 90 degrees for tomorrow’s ride. Some rain is supposed to come tonight, but since TN is mostly gravel and paved roads, mud should not be an issue.
After 12 hours in the car with three dudes, we’re all excited for a shower and good night’s sleep. If I can manage to fall asleep that is…
